I found Derek's Desert Island Discs programme on the BBC R4 website sometime ago, but as far as I could see you could only read about it. I was just looking for another programme (I need to catch up with the Samuel Pepy's episodes - I love them!) and I found a link to listen to Derek's programme. I guess others may have found it before now but if not have a look. I think I will listen straightaway - Samuel Pepys can wait!

I usually set off for a meeting/appointment in plenty of time, but on Wednesday, with the builders still here and various other last minute things I was about 10 mins later leaving.......well true to form there was one hold up after another, two sets of temporary traffic lights, a dust cart or two and a long, long queue of cars trying to get off the main road down a narrow lane to a Car Boot Sale. Looked so exciting I almost joined them!! So I was much later getting to Jane than I planned and therefore to the Pottery.......I did apologise.

But my journey down was really cheery because of the bunting hung along the road through villages and linking many of them one to the other. A lot of gardening work going on, whether already planned or to make things extra smart I don't know but it all looked very festive.

The main Lizard road is closed at Culdrose tonight from 6pm to 9pm and a large marquee is waiting for the people who will arrive and TV crews, tonights 'One Show' will be broadcasting from there according to the local newspaper. Whether to try and get to a vantage point tomorrow to see the torch being carried towards Falmouth I'm not sure........having missed out on Flora Day due to lack of parking and not being good about standing in crowds waiting for hours on end I think we will decide on the spur of the moment what to do.

Mullion village is hung with flags, not sure why but will try and discover the reason. I know Mullion and Ruan are having Jubilee Street parties but it't a bit early for that. The village is being planted up for it's annual 'Village in Bloom' try.......had silver gilt awarded a couple of times, there is so much effort put in. I had thought of joining in myself this year if they wanted extra help, but with the turn of events and the builders still here didn't offer, which is probably not what I should have done.

The Cornish do seem to have kept the apptitude for celebrating events that villages had years ago and I hope that never dies.

The page for Video clips has now been updated. You can find these by going to the website itself and to the section Derek and Jeannie Tangye , hover over that tab and a drop down menu appears with the video clips appearing at the bottom of them, Click on that and you will go to the Video clips page.

If you are interested in looking at them there are currently four available.

One is The Savoy Hotel since its revamp which finished 2010. It has never been revamped sicne 1926 and stayed the same until 2006 when the refurbishment commenced. This video gives you an idea of the glamorous background in which they lived.T
The next video is more an audio and is Carroll Gibbons and The Savoy Hotel Orpheans, whom Derek and Jeannie knew well...I couldn't find an audio of him playing The Lady is Tramp...but found thisi one instead with Anne Lenner vocals. Anne Lenner sang with Carroll Gibbons and his band frequently.
The next video I am sure many fans will love....today's music with our very own Gary Kennon!
The final video may find many hiding in slight embarassment if they are camera shy of performing for others!
I hope you enjoy this selection.

Sitting in our office busily working away at whatever we could hear this tweet sound coming from the sitting room....and thought at first it was on the TV. I decided after a period of time to go and investigate..and there were three cats intent on something by the TV.....I pulled them away which in iteself is no mean feat as they were intent on being close to the TV....what did I see in the corner behind...no it wasnt the normal run of the mill bird, mouse, lizard...it was a duckling, a small but perfectly formed beautifl little duckling!! I picked it up and it was shivering, no doubt with fright. I held it close and thought there is no way I can bring this up it wouldn't survive here anyway with that lot..and its so small..I must find Mum. It was getting dark so I needed to be quick. I thought it was unlikely to have been brought in from the loch so it must be the pond. It tweeted and as I got nearer I could hear Mum calling...the duckling replied...but when I got there Mum flew off. I saw that she only circled so I very quickly put the duckling down in the water and it scurried off into the rushes and tweeted, Mum replied. I kept ALL the cats in last night needless to say and they were going stircrazy with 'cabin fever'. I went to check this morning and couldnt see any sign of duckling nor Mum, but they could have gone further up into the pond, well I hope so, for I found our best hunter sitting near the edge in teh ruches and she wasnt happy to see me there, crying at me. 'I am only keeping watch that the others don't get the duckling!'...mmmm! I said I dont think so...come on home with me Madam!
The things I get up to!
I just hope it survives and grows into a beautiful duck. It was oh! so sweet.....

Hi,
I'm new to forums - this is my first but I couldn't have made a better choice. I don't talk much so you may not hear from me very often but I will be around on the fringes - like Oliver in the early days, maybe! I began reading these wonderful books in my early twenties when I was lucky enough to live in Snowdonia National Park in Wales. This was way before computers so all I had was my imagination and pictures in the books. Five years ago I moved to Cornwall and since made a magical visit to Minack via the coastal path. I have started to read all of the books again and as a result found this site. Sadly, I'm a bit too far away to attend activities but I plan to visit again this year with my Mum who is also a great fan.
Regards to all and congratulations on all the work you do and for this great site.
Karen

On Saturday evening Roger and I took his mum and dad to a concert in aid of a local hospice to see the Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir in Pirbright, Surrey. The village is just a few miles from where Roger's parents live and his mum, being Welsh, was looking forward to hearing the lovely Welsh voices sing.

The concert was held in the church of St Michael & All Saints in Pirbright and while we were waiting for it to begin I noticed a lady talking to many of the audience. I thought how familier she looked but not being 'local' I was trying to think where I had seen her before. When she turned round she was wearing a dog collar and I recognised her immediately - she was Christine Musser who appeared in the series 'A Seaside Parish' set around Boscastle.

I turned to Roger to tell him and he had just recognised her as well, I checked on the vicars name in a booklet we had been given when we arrived and it confirmed she was inded the Rev'd Christine Musser and she had been with that church since 2006.

She seemed very popular with people who obviously knew her very well and at the end of the concert, which was excellent, she gave a lovely speech thanking the choir and the audience who had tuned out on such a dreadful night weatherwise for supporting the local hospice.

I thought that many of you would like to know where she is after what I thought was probably the best of the series made.

This afternoon my friend Penny (who is visiting me at the moment) and I went on Mermaid II for a coastal trip from PZ harbour over to St Michael's Mount, up to Perranuthnoe and then over via Mousehole to Lamorna and Tater Du lighthouse. Adrian, the skipper, gave his spiel about the MInack Theatre and the lighthouse but no mention of Dorminack or Derek and Jeannie. There were only 6 of us out so I asked Adrian if he knew about the Tangyes and although he said he did his knowledge of them seemed a bit vague as though they were only a didtant memory. He then handed over to me to tell the others something about them which I did. He asked me to give him some written info so he can recount their story to future passengers so I'll do that. He's very good with his stories and commentary so hopefully he will add Dorminack and the Chronicles to his repertoire. We were so lucky with the weather as we got soaked in the morning on Porthcurno beach and at the start of the boat trip there was a bit of rain in the air but the sun came out and it was beautiful with it sparkling on the sea.

Tomorrow we're off to Heligan so hope we're lucky again. Sunday sounds dreadful so we may be staying indoors. The Matthew is at Falmouth at the moment but is sailing to PZ tomorrow where it will visit St Michael's Mount. The waves are forecast to be 60 ft on saturday evening/sunday morning so should be interesting. Lots of seaweed on The Prom at the moment.
