We went to see the matinee performance of "Jesus Christ Superstar" today at The Minack which was really brilliant, very lively and also very hot. Glorious afternoon with lots of small boats and yachts going past or bobbing about fishing. The Gry Maritha went by too on her way to St Marys.

As we were leaving and climbing up the steps from the front row I turned to look at the sea for a breather and saw 2 basking sharks ~ so exciting! They were possibly juveniles as didn't look too enormous but were just below the surface with their fins above the water. The sea was so clear you could see the boulders on the sea bed and what glorious colours but there again the sea always seems a wonderful colour over there. Loads of folk enjoying themselves on Porthcurno beach and in the sea.

Oh Jane, I am just drooling with envy! I could visualise so clearly those basking sharks and the glorious colours of the sea at the Minack. It was a beautiful clear, hot sunny day when we were at the Minack and, as you say, standing up there looking down on the water, we too could see right to the seabed, with the sun sparkling on a wonderful palette of blue, turquoise and emerald green water. Time to find one of my photos from that day I think and put it on my desktop screen for a while.

What a wonderful description of the sea, I am Sooo envious. The sea at the east anglian coast is never any other color but grey/brown, probably the sea bed being churned up by the massive tankers and boats going into Felixtowe . So much for the theory that the sea reflects the sky or that the sea is filled with irridescent plankton and micro organisims.

I'm pleased that good weather has arrived for half term and hopefully local businesses will be busy while the good weather is here!:dirol:

Jane, you need to be careful putting posts on like that - you nearly ended up with visitors!!! I felt like just jumping in the car and driving down to see the beautiful Cornish sea. How wonderful to see basking sharks as well. can you keep one of them until we come down to Cornwall at the end of July? I think they have normally moved on by then.

Pauline, its the same with the sea by us. The Severn Estuary is always brown, I guess with all of the silt and mud. It sometimes looks a bit more blue past Swansea but it is still a bit murky close up!

Kath, I was just thinking of digging out some photos myself!

Instead of a Minack theatre photo, I have chosen one taken in St Ives of the same iridescent sea with Godrevy lighthouse away in the background and several yachts bobbing around on the water. When I fired up my computer this morning I wished I could jump into the screen and actually be there!

I've got the sea at St Agnes (IOS) with Firethorn, the Bryher boat, in the background as my desk top. It's really good how you can keep changing the desk top photos to suit the seasons or to give you something really cheerful to look at. How was the water Kath when you jumped in? I went to PZ Leisure Centre pool for my swim this morning ~ quite a bit cooler than the hydrotherapy pool at Treliske!!

The water was a tad chilly Jane!!! I've changed the pic again this afternoon and this time I have got one taken at the Minack theatre. I took it from up near the top looking down over the auditorium and out to sea and can almost get vertigo looking at it, it's so steep. It's brought back memories of a lovely day spent there though two years ago. Can't believe that it will be two years next Thursday since I retired! Where has that time gone!!!

We're always saying that ~ where's time gone? We seem to have a busy week next week too ~ just various meetings for Bryan mainly to do with the Coastwatch but it means we have to sort out when we're dog walking remembering the tides as well. All the NCI Stations in Cornwall collectively have been awarded The Queens Award for Voluntary Service 2010. They are one of three Charities in Cornwall to receive this Award which is the equivalent of the MBE for an individual. They're all absolutely amazed and very proud.
