O.K so at present a steady rain may be falling which is most welcome here, but during a recent journey I thought how beautiful our countryside is. No matter whether you live in the countryside, town or city next time you have the chance take it all in.
Cow parsley waves, though now past its best, early white, pink and red campion brighten the verges with buttercups, dandelion and woad putting on a yellow show. The lovely Ox-eye daisies and their companions, scarlet poppies, are a joy to see.
But best of all at this time must be the Hawthorn with shades varying from white through buff-pink, pink and red to the deepest red - branches heavy with blossom.
Take a minute to appreciate everything as you'll have to wait another twelve months to see it again!:yes4:

The Cornish lanes have and do look beautiful at present, driving down the Lizard is a treat.

Lovely observations, Pauline, and I agree with your every word!

Gloria, have you moved permanently to Mullion now?

Two years on (almost) from getting the keys to Bryher we are not yet moved in ...... lots of problems last year with terrible flooding in the Winter, having got that fixed we decided to get on with the alterations which began as a smallish project and evolved into a much bigger one. The builders began in November 09 and the work was supposed to take 8 - 10 weeks. They took double that........and there is still lots to do .... Eddie never stops working, so while we are here I only seem to get as far as Helston Tesco or Falmouth B&Q. Our property in Herts is on the market but thus far no offers. So when we will be here for good is rather in the lap of the gods.

The hedgerows are wonderful around this area too and the bypass is lovely with the candles of the chestnut trees. I was out and about with a friend yesterday and we found ourselves at the Gweek Seal Sanctuary, then went on to Helford which I'd never been to before and had lunch at the pub. Followed on around the coast to Coverack which again I hadn't visited before ~ really enjoyed there, very attractive and sat outside at a cafe enjoying a cup of coffee. ON the way back we treid to find Loe Bar but it seems as though you have to walk for quite a way to even reach it so we'd left it a bit late and my friend's dog is very old so it would have been too much for him after our earlier walks.

You are making me quite envious. I would like to sit beside the Helford river drinking coffee. The chestnut candles in our churchyard are- no were because the rain has battered them, beautiful. Have you got murky weather there?

Chin up Gloria, we are nearing the end of a 5yr project here and sometimes it was one step forward, two back. Hopefully you will smile about it when all is finished and you are installed. Pick up your messages.

I love this time of year when all the leaves are so fresh and green and the wild flowers are in abundance. How I would love to be walking on a Cornish clifftop this morning among the thrift, bluebells, sea campions and gorse.
It's fairly bright up here in my neck of the woods this morning, Pauline, although there are one or two darker clouds lurking on the horizon. Definitely better than yesterday though when we had heavy rain, gusty winds and a decidedly chilly temperature.

Sad to say it was decidedly chilly last evening and we had the heating on for 2 hours. What a joke, its June next week.

Ditto, really goes against the grain, doesn't it? Shouldn't be needing central heating by now.
Just to carry the chilly theme further, believe it or not yesterday morning I received the Studio Cards Christmas catalogue through the post!!!! Do I really want to be choosing my cards and wrapping paper during the Spring Bank holiday weekend? No, I do not!

Kath, your signature- "make someone's day, give them a smile", I'm going to try that when I go shopping and see what results I get. They may think "who is that manic person" or I'll get a smile back. Anyone else care to try this?

It does work, Pauline - for the most part anyway! Occasionally you can see someone thinking "ought I to know that woman who is grinning at me?" but I find that most times people will smile back and even say hello sometimes. That signature came about after I read a letter in a newspaper from an elderly lady who lived alone and had no family around her, and she commented on a friendly shop assistant who would always smile and pass the time of day with her when she went in to get her groceries. She said that it had made her day, and that remark stayed with me and made me vow to do the same.

It's been dull but warm here today and it started raining lightly about 2pm so very well timed as I'd spent the morning gardening. It's just the right sort of rain for the plants, useful without battering them. Lovely sunny day on friday but yesterday was overcast although still warm and dry with a bit of a breeze in the evening.

Oh, to be in England .............. I always loved this poem by Robert Browning as it very much expresses my own feelings. Especially in spring I always yearn to be in England. Although it is beautiful over here, too, to see nature coming alive again and to see all the blossom, English springs still have something very special for me about them.
Over here the temperatures are up and down at present. Last weekend was hot and sunny with the temperature up to 28 degr. Then during the week we only had 9 degr. and a lot of liquid sunshine. Yesterday was beautiful, sunshine and blue skies with just a few white clouds and a lovely 23 degr. Just 14 today and the occacional heavy shower.

It's pretty much the same over here too, Sybille. Hot and sunny last weekend, but this week is typical Bank Holiday weather of sunshine and showers and much lower temperatures. It will probably improve dramatically once everyone is back at work again!

It is good to smile at other as they pass you by and most will smile back. You can sense the people who may not smile so are more wary. It is even better when someone smiles first!! Walkers always greet each other when out for a stroll ~ wonder if they do in everyday life?

Most dog walkers on the beaches seem to greet each other and if the dogs stop to make friends with either the other dogs or the owners then conversations begin. It's funny in that when you meet regulars you only get to know the dogs' names and not the owners.

Sybille, you put me to shame as I vaguely thought the writer of "Oh! to be........was Wordsworth or Keats , never Browning. As I have no interest in poetry it wouldn't register. Are you a poetry enthusiast? I like poems and verses that rhyme!

Rachel and I spent our honeymoon near St Keverne (I am sure that I have said before) and one evening we went to the Lifeboat Restaurant. It was a wonderful dinner and the lady guessed that we were newly married (shiney new wedding rings?) and made us sign the visitors book. We always thought we would go back one day but I understand that ythe restaurant has changed hands now and is different.
We visited Loe Bar a couple of years ago and walked around from a little village next to it (to the right as you look out to sea!). We drove as far as we could and parked in quite a rough looking carpark. We then followed the coast path, which I dont think was too difficult and got a wonderful view looking down onto it.
We noticed all of the flowers in the hedgerows today and the hedgerows are so glorious. Not sure whether I am ready for Christmas cards yet but I did point out to Rachel that the nights will start to draw in from next month!!!

Adrian. Did you know there is a wonderful daffodil named St. Keverne which is widely available. It is a deep yellow trumpet flower, slightly scented and about 16" tall. They can stand the wind better than others and are wonderful to see en masse. For sentimental reasons, plant some in a pot this year.:meeting:

Not really an enthusiast but I do like poetry, especially poets like Wordsworth, Keats or Browning.
'Oh to be in England' is infact just the first line of Browning's poem. The title is 'Home Thought from abroad'. As I feel England is my spiritual home this poem in particular has always meant a lot to me.

Sounds a lovely day, Jane. I liked Coverack, too, especially the row of houses along the path leading out of Coverack and onto the coastal footpath, towards Black Head I think it was. As to Loe Bar, it's been so long since we were there, but I think the walk there from the carpark can't have been too long as, due to my health condition, I have never been able to walk far. So, if I was there, it can't have been a long way  , but maybe nowadays the approach by car is no longer possible.

She gave me a look. The look.
Yes, I cant believe where this year has gone and it seems like we are still getting over the harsh winter! This time of the year always seems to fly by and before we know it we will be back at school and it will be autumn. It is my favourite time of the year (autumn) but I would like a bit of summer first.
We have booked a cottage for our trip to Cornwall in October with Rachel's Mum and Dad. We decided to do something different from the usual bungalow and we have booked a cottage soemwhere near St Buryan/Treen. It looks nice and it has two log burners which after recent October breaks will prove to be very welcome! I think it is called Treglyn. Took us a long time to find it because cottages that sleep 5 at a reasonable price were quite hard to come by or were booked.

Our - so called - patio was awash when we left........this is the one that the builder said would be better in Delabole Slate if you remember, it's being stipped off today!! However we have thought of another use for it........and no it's not a rude one!!
