Its looking very wet and wild at the theatre today but its sunny here and I've been able to finally get down to some seed planting.

Only parsnips, carrots and onion sets as yet and the broad beans I planted in the autumn are about 6 inches high. I did wonder if they would survive the winter but the variety Aquadulce seem to be very hardy.

I'm waiting to see if some of my perennials have survived especially the penstemons. Ten years ago I always had to take autumn cuttings from them as the cold invariably killed them off but the last few winters lulled me into a false sense of security as they survived well outside - not so sure this year.

I expect the garden centres will do well this year everyone will be replacing lost plants!

Bryan's planted broad beans but only a few weeks ago when he also sowed the climbing peas. I have sweet peas and tomatoes in the progagator but that's in the dining room by the glass door as no greenhouse yet. They're almost doing too well as the tomatoes will need to be pricked out into individual pots soon. It's very wet here today so I envy you your sunshine Liz ~ so much more enjoyable for working in the garden. Good luck with the seeds, hope we have a wonderful growing season.

My penstemons are still alive but there are some very brown bits! I think they will be alright. I think I have lost a Phygellas (sp?), a salmon pink one that I bought in Trengwainton in Cornwall. Wont dig it up yet because it may suddenly bounce back.

I am looking forward to getting some time in the garden over the holidays.

Quite overcast and cool here today - which means that my excuse that it's too hot to tackle my overgrown vegie patch is fast coming to an end. Everything has finished in the garden now and it needs a lot of attention before the next planting.

As we are 'between homes' I haven't sown anything yet......shooting some potatoes but they will have to be planted in tubs as there isn't enough garden at Bryher to grow them and thus far haven't tracked down any allotments on the Lizard.
We've always been quite lucky with broad beans, but never tried parsnips. With the forecast for more bad weather heavens knows when things will really get going in the garden. With the scaffold gone at Bryher I could see some of my lovely shrubs in bloom and others getting ready.
