After all the heavy rain and wind the afternoon turned out not so bad. Bryan managed to walk home from his course by the harbour in the dry and got in at 6.15pm just before it started raining again. Next thing we had 2 very loud rumbles of thunder which sounded overhead along with lightening which cut the power off! Thank goodness it came back on reasonably quickly. I nearly forgot to check the oven as the hob is gas and of course that was still operating but the electric oven had switched off. Luckily it hadn't been off for long before I remembered to check.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a better day so hoping to get the dogs on the beach.:rain::rain::rain::rain::rain::rain:

Glad your power cut didn't last for long, Jane - can't miss the weekly fix of Strictly!

It got pretty foul up here too for a few hours but it seems to be calming down out there again now, and tomorrow doesn't look too bad for us on the whole. Poor Cumbria and South West Scotland look to be in for another hammering though, and Cornwall too, so hope no more of your greenhouse goes walkabout, Gloria.

I feel so sorry for the people living in Cumbria who have been flooded out. There won't be too much Christmas cheer around there this year I fear.

It must be truly dreadful to have your home flooded at any time of year but at least in the summer there's some hope of it drying out more easily. In the run up to Christmas it's definitely going to be a worrying and uncertain time especially if you have young children.

We did manage to walk Rosie and Jessie on Long Rock beach this morning ~ in the dry ~ so they enjoyed that and had a great run about after the gulls. Bryan managed to lose his cap ~ it blew off and went across the railway line so no way of retrieving it. He should be a hoodie like me.

We just got home and the next deluge came down so we were lucky there.

Linda and Jeff, hope your're not faring too badly and everyone else too.

Hi its mary. Well I hate to admit it but i am now writing this as an o.a.p. I officially joined the over 60 club last thursday.:( I suppose Im lucky that I can get a pension at 60 the way things are about to change age wise. It does have its advantages of course like free prescriptions, bus pass etc. ha ha. The best bit is im now going part time at work so only working three days from this week. Thought id try reducing hours for a while before giving up work completely.
I feel quite guilty hearing about all the bad weather everyones had this week as we were on a cruise to the canary isles madeira and morroco to celebrate? my birthday from fri 13th to fri 20th so we were in temps of 24deg + sorry all!
We are now back in Kent in the pouring rain. All good things come to an end so they say.
Another advantage of part time work is it should give me more time to chat to you all here never seem to find time when working full time.
Well sorry to here about your probs linda and hope you are soon in a warm dry house again. Cant be much fun having to do all that work and not being able to sleep in your bedroom. Hope things are all sorted soon.

I feel dreadfully sorry for anyone caught up in house flooding or for that matter flooding of any kind. When I saw what the burst pipes had done to Bryher last January, knowing it was just a shadow of real rising floods, it made me realise just what it must be like to see your home like it and the terrible way it makes you feel to see your home wrecked. We had no precious things there, no memorabilia, irreplaceable items etc. the worst things we thought might have been damaged beyond help was the electric sudo wood burner fire, the oldish TV and our new couches and arm chair. If they had it would have been a blow but not of the 'can't ever replace them' variety. Fortunately, though I doubted it at the time, the furniture dried out and has no lingering smell about it, the TV works as does the fire. The only thing that really suffered was a small coffee table we got from Lidl which cost about £9 - we still use it when we're there though it is a bit rocky. We were very fortunate, the pictures of Cumbria and affected areas are unbearably sad to see.

Hi Mary - your answer/posting is fine........we ramble away here and jump around so much a post out of place now and then is nothing, but your's is fine anyway.
If we get too out of hand Linda or Jeff move our post to a more appropriate place, and we say 'Thank you Linda or Jeff' and try not to give them too much tidying up after us. :jester::dance3::jester:

Welcome to the "Golden Oldies" club, Mary, it's actually quite a nice place to be! Soon you will be wondering how soon you can give up work completely, then it will be "how on earth did I ever find time to go to work"!

Congratulations Mary, glad you've joined the club ~ I love it. Free swimming too! One of my friends was working 3 days a week, then was made redundant in February (she was 61) and was thinking she wouldn't know what to do with herself but she's always on the go and wonders where time disappears to.

As Gloria has said, no problem adding to this thread. It was months before I got brave enough to start a new thread.:clap2::typing:

Thanks Gloria for making me feel better after posting in the wrong place. I will admit after saying I should start a new thread I couldnt see how to anyway. Now im part time at work I hopefully will have more time to find my way round FOMS.
Thanks Kath for the welcome to the golden oldies club. Im sure you are right about the time going quickly and suspect the grandchildren will be taking more of mine although it will be good to have some 'me time' and hopefully catch up with reading the many books that are building up on my bookcase to read. ive just read No Mans Island by Susan Sallis while on holiday and suspect if that island was real we would all be going over there while in cornwall!
Thanks Jane for the congratulatuions to the club and sorry again for joining your thread. Another advantage of going part time is it may allow us to have more time in cornwall for the AGM as last year we had to miss the afternoon walk with John as I was working Tues morning but now will work thurs fri and sat.

If you are now working Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Mary does that mean you will miss the Morrab Library and the AGM next year?

I've read No Man's Island too, good read, isn't it?

Kath
