Summer has returned to Germany: 26°C today and lots of sunshine. We spent an hour by the lake earlier today which was particularly nice after having spent so much time in hospital during the past two weeks.
The pleasure was, however, diminished a little as I was thinking of my sister's boss who has arrived in Cornwall today for his holiday! How I would have liked to be in his place. He was not even particularly keen on going, as it had been mainly his wife's idea, so he is probably not really able to appreciate his fortune. Isn't it unfair? :feminist:

Your poor health is definitely unfair Sybille, but I still hope that one day in the not too distant future you will be able to visit Cornwall.
Maybe your friend's husband will fall in love with Cornwall once there.

Maybe he will, Gloria, although his attitude before he left was that he could only bear up with his wife's wishes of seeing Cornwall because it was just a 10-day-holiday, and for this short period he thought there might be enough to see in a small place such as Cornwall. He said he would of course not spend his main 3 weeks' holiday there. So, let's see what he has to say after his return.
It's funny, but lately I have heard of several people who went to Cornwall with not a lot enthusiasm really, while those who would desperately love to go, for one or the other reason, can't.
Our friend Antje for instance who went to Cornwall with us for the first time back in 1995, said it was her best holiday ever. Shortly after that she met her new partner who always used to travel to France with all the family for his holiday. Antje, after joining them for their holiday, said the French Atlantic coast was beautiful but that it lacked the atmosphere of Cornwall and that she could never feel at home there, when she had felt totally content and at home in Cornwall. Since then, whenever another holiday was approaching, she borrowed my Cornwall photograph album showing it again to her partner and his parents and brothers and sisters trying to persuade them to travel to Cornwall but none of them was prepared to do so. Antje and her partner nowadays travel without the family most of the time, and her partner wouldn't mind going to Cornwall now, but for a few years now they have had their dog Carlos, a stray from Spain which they had under a rehoming scheme. In England, although quarantaine regulations are not as strict anymore, dogs from abroad have to be muzzled which she doesn't want to do to her dog, and leaving him at home with the family would not be a solution either. She did this once to her previous dog Justus, and Justus would not touch any food as long as Antje was away.
So there's yet another sufferer like me. :(

I hope your friend's husband doesn't spoil her enjoyment of the holiday by his negative attitude. I always feel if you approach something expecting to be dissatisfied, then you probably will be since you will always be looking for the negative aspects of a trip, whereas if you go somewhere expecting to be wowed, then again you will be. Let's hope Cornwall can work its magic on him and make him a convert.

There are some people that just dont get it about Cornwall. I know several people who have been when the weather hasnt been so good and they allowed that to spoil it for them (of course a summer holiday is always better with a bit of sun but there is plenty to do if it rains) and wont go back. I was talking to someone the other day who said I was obsessed (to which I agreed) and seemed to look down on the fact that we visit as often as we can and take our main holiday there. There may be a time when we choose to visit some other places but at the moment we are happy doing what we do. I do wish that I was there at the moment though and I wish that we could 'magic' you there somehow as well Sybille!
