Is anyone watching this series on BBC1 on Sunday evenings? I've missed the previous programmes but caught last night's episode since I had been watching Countryfile from the Game Fair at Belvoir Castle (and trying to spot my brother and his partner) immediately beforehand.

I was glad to catch the programme since it came from all around my area, especially Chatsworth and Cromford Mill, plus the flour mill on the River Derwent - I know them all well.

Chatsworth is simply stunning, Annette. To stand near the Emperor fountain in full flow is breathtaking (literally if you stand too near and the wind blows the spray over you!!). I was there one lovely sunny day and the light was being reflected through individual droplets of spray giving a multi-rainbow effect so that it was just like seeing a cascade of sparkling jewels - an amazing experience.

Children (and adults) often paddle in the Cascade fountain but you need to be a bit wary - it can be very slippery as we found out to our cost. Claire fell over in it years ago as a small child, got soaked to the skin and for once I hadn't taken a change of clothing for her, so she ended up wrapped up in my cardigan!

They have a great farm too where children can pet the animals, and the farm shop, just outside the village of Edensor (where Chatsworth employees have traditionally lived) is well worth a visit - not cheap but oh so nice. :girl_wacko:

Eddie has been watching 'Rivers' and said how good it is.

Chatsworth is a place I haven't visited but it sounds very interesting and well worth seeing. When my lads were small my car, or Eddie's come to that, was rather like a moveable wardrobe, clothing for every occasion, for fear that, just as happend with Claire, we would be away from home and a dry set of clothes would be required. Oh the joys!!

I was half watching Rivers last night whilst also reading "Tangye" which arrived the other day. I enjoyed the programme too and also reading my book, not very far into it yet. I've also splashed out and bought "Meet me at the Savoy" so I have that in the pipeline. I've always wanted to read that so I'm looking forward to it.

Yesterday was a lovely day for working in the garden and getting the washing dry but no sunshine.I did at least get our bedspread washed by hand and on the line and back on the bed by night time ( did cheat a bit and used the tumble dryer to get it started) When we replaced our washing machine we didn't think about the bedspread and it just wont go in.........................:fie:

Today is warm but very drizzly. Got quite wet on Porth Kidney Sands but the dogs had a great time.

Meant to say I've always wanted to see Chatsworth too. The fountains do look wonderful when they're shown on TV. I love visiting historical houses like that ~ the gardens and grounds too.

Well, if any of you do ever make it up to my neck of the woods you will have to let me know and I can meet you and show you some of my favourite places.

The house at Chatsworth is lovely as well as the gardens.
