Saw a pair of magnificent Bald Eagles on our walk this morning.
Have to keep a close eye on our little Yorkie,Titch as she weighs only 4 pounds and could easily be carried off!

Dread to think what an Eagle could carry off as Magpie's can take a reasonable size puppy. My friend lost more of her chicks and ducklings to Magpie's than the Fox. Although I chased a fox across one of her paddocks in the vain hope he would drop a poor, quacking duck - but didn't manage a rescue as the wily chap slipped through the smallest hole in a thorn hedge and vanished into the farmers field beyond and all this in full daylight.

I had no idea that Magpies were a threat. They are certainly a nuisance I know but very intelligent and quite beautiful if you look closely.
I lived in Western Australia for a while and there the Magpies were larger then their European cousins and very aggressive during the nesting season and people walk around with umbrellas up for protection against their dive-bombing attacks.I was pecked on the head and chased down the road while riding my bike more than once!
The Bald Eagles are magnificent and actually mainly fish-eaters.

I'm sorry, Steve, I shouldn't laugh I know, but I have just had a real chuckle at the vision of you being chased on your bike by an outsize magpie. Having been mugged for my pasty by a St Ives seagull, I really should be more sympathetic!

... probably it was the same seagull who swooped onto my shoulder and stole my delicious icecream in St Ives some years ago :x . Having said that, I still think seagulls are beautiful birds ... a Mousehole resident once told me they wouldn't be a problem if the fishing industry was as it used to be.
