Eddie and I have just joined the Lizard Peninsula Heritage Trust www.lizardpeninsulaheritagetrust.org.uk It seems not much is done outside of the Lizard to maintain it, so as Lizard newbies I thought we should join and show we really appreciate this part of the world enough to be part of the group. :)

How spooky. I was just about to post on here about a piece I have been reading today on the BBC Cornwall website about asking for volunteers to help with preservation work around the Lizard peninsula.
It will be a good way for you to make yourselves known in the community and to make some new friends, won't it?

Gloria what a good idea - you'll be doing your bit to appreciate and preserve your corner of Cornwall. Also, as Kath says, you're sure to make new friends, whilst helping to look after the environment for future generations.

Must take a look at the piece you were reading Kath. Any support or interest in the Lizard we can give will be rewarding and certainly should help us integrate well. We have a real interest in the area and this will be another way of enjoying it.
Eddie says that three girls were rescued from the sea in St Ives one of whom is in intensive care. The life-guards are finished for the season and members of the public seem to have been at the forefront of their rescue.

Yes I read about those 3 French girls in St Ives too. They got into difficulties on Porthmeor beach in a rip tide, two managed to get to shore and raise the alarm about the third one who was then pulled unconscious from the water by other people on the beach.
Lucky there were people around to help.

Kath - went to find your report on preservation work on the Lizard and found instead the plight of Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary which is just off the main road to Lizard Town near Ruan Minor. They are really struggling to keep going and it will get worse with Winter coming as feed bills will rise. Anyway needless to say I have e-mailed them to offer my help if they can use it. They have a good web-site showing the animals for adoption including donkeys, muscovy ducks and a cat as well as the ponies. They have a charity shop in Helston in Horse and Jockey Lane which is their main way of raising funds. So need to try and find the report you first mentioned Kath. Odd where these things lead :D

Gloria, the above is the link to the item I was referring to. I couldn't find it again today, but it was in my list of sites visited!
I couldn't help noticing that the Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary have donkeys for adoption - how soon is going to be that we are hearing that you have an addition to your family?!

Just thought ..... if you have a donkey, a muscovy drake and a cat ..... you will be starting your very own Minack in Mullion!  But perhaps we hadn't better tell Eddie about that plan either!!!

And to add to it all there are 4 acres of land for separate negotiation with a house just around the corner from Bryher, wonder if there is access without having the house? ....
Glad you're interested in the charity Julia......I have contacted them but the person who's e-mail address I have is away until next Monday. When I am there next I will take a drive down to see, the farm must be very close to Jenny Agutter's home. I am definitely making a donation and hope I can do something to help in a practical sense even if it's taking a turn in the shop. Wish I'd known about it a year ago I had so much stuff I could have given them to sell not sure I have anything worth while now, better get up in the loft and take a look.
