Hello! I live with my husband Clive and daughter Dominique in North Devon, another beautiful part of our country... I became aware of Derek and Jeannie Tangye twenty years ago and loved the stories, in a couple of the books Derek talked about a mischievious pixie who would move say Jeannies scizzors and either replace them at some later date in that particular place or remove them to somewhere else!!! and as that is allways happening to us with car keys and spectacles I would love to reaquaint myself with the pixie and the books that he is mentioned in, so if any one could kindly help me that would be super. we do go and see the donkeys at Sidmouth, Thanking you hopefully,
Mavis

Hello Mavis
and Welcome to the forum!

Hope you enjoy reading all the posts...you are welcome to reply to any and to start a new thread of discussion anytime! We always ready to chat about something new!

What part of North Devon are you in, its a very beautiful county! I had many a holiday there with my Mum, we used to camp more often than not and my brother worked in Winsford for a while before moving back to London to work in Stringfellows.

I cannot remember the book this is mentioned in but I am absolutely certain that one if not a few of the other members will know!

Hope to see on the forum....

Welcome again!

Linda

Hi Mavis
John & Mim Nash here - I'm the FOMS chairman and my wife Mim's the vice chairman - welcome to the FOMS Forum. I'm afraid that holding such an exalted office has done nothing for my memory, so although I remember the pixies, at the moment I can't for the life of me think which book they're in!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Forum and feel able to contribute from time to time.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Hello Mavis, welcome to the forum.

I can remember the incident you describe about the mischievous pixie, but can't remember which of the books it was in. However I am currently re-reading most of the Chronicles so if I come across it I will let you know.

I think most of us have a mischievous pixie in our lives at some point! I know I am always putting things down and being unable to find them again. I often accuse my other half of moving them, although he swears blind that he hasn't. Most times they turn up again, although my favourite pen disappeared about 3 months ago and still hasn't re-surfaced.

Look forward to hearing more from you on these boards.

Kath

that dratted pixie moved my toothbrush this morning and so I had to clean my teeth with my finger and toothpaste yuk!

Guess where he put it (and yes it is a he!) on top of the cat biscuits!

Kath try asking for your pen to be returned........daft it might seem but I have done this many times and been amazed at how often I find the article in a place I have looked many, many times. :?

The secret to finding mislaid items or remembering a word or name that somehow won't come to you is in the mind - quite literally. It is in there somewhere: it has to be!

So how do you get at it?

1) believe that it is in there somewhere
2) tell yourself with conviction that your subconscious mind is going to give you the answer, preferably stating by when (time & date, eg by 8.00 tonight)
3) putting it out of your conscious mind, ie relax and forget about until the alloted date & time.

The chances are it will pop into your head when you are least expecting it. It does work and is on similar lines to the process everyone must have experienced when you set off from one room to do something and when you get to where you are going you've forgotten what it was, only to go back to where you started and it springs back into your head!

Do you know Dex I have such a bad memory about wehre I last had something that I am going to try what you are suggesting...it sounds eminently sensible and like it will work!
 thanks!

Hi Mavis - I've just been re-reading the Chronicles, and I KNEW I'd just read about the pixie - so flipped thru the last four books I'd read and there he is in The Winding Lane, page 54 (Sphere paperback edition). He obviously has cousins in Australia, because when we moved recently, I was in quite a state when I found that my lovely blue & white dinner set was missing one entree plate - there were only 5 instead of 6! I went through all sorts of hoops trying to find where the missing plate was, Hobberdy's cousin must have been having hysterics laughing at me, and when I came to unpack at the new house, there was the missing plate! I CAN count to 10 and I'm SURE I didn't mis-count ..... it had to Hobberdy's cousin! Cheers, Jennie

Well Hobberdy's cousin MUST live here with us as well (or a relative of his!). My husband has just found my sat.nav. that I last had when we were in Cornwall nearly 2 weeks ago and have been frantically searching for eversince - in the Garage!! How did it get there?? :? Just as I was about to give it up as a lost cause as well. :)
