Greetings to you all.
I am Edwina, an artist with an obsessive passion for Cornwall, puss cats and the beautiful writings of Derek Tangye, but unfortunately i still live in nottingham and not in glorious Cornwall!
I discovered derek 14 years ago. I was on holiday in swanage and was browsing in a book shop when i saw a book with a ginger moggie on the front, having a passion for Cornwall and a ginger moggie of my own (who sadly died last year aged eighteen) i bought the book and was hooked ever since.
I finally completed my whole collection of Dereks books 2 years ago.
His books made me laugh, inspired me and made me roar like a baby. He lived the Cornish dream, and i totally lost myself reading his books, i felt i was there with him and Jeanie and the animals!
I have just returned from Lamorna, after a wonderful holiday staying at Rosemerryn wood.
I am an artist specialising in Coastal scenes, little cornish cottages and crystal blue seas, i also spend hours making silver earrings, and collecting puss cats, i have over 500 in my collection so far, and they were all bought in Cornwall over the years.
Not sure what else to write, so ask away if you would like to know more.
Edwina

Hello Edwina, welcome to our friendly forum. I live not too far away from you in New Mills, in North Derbyshire and my elder daughter was at Notts Trent University.
I envy you having just been to Lamorna. Did you manage to get to Oliver Land while you were down there?
I was lucky enough to meet Derek (but sadly not Jeannie) way back in about 1985 and have all the Chronicles which I read and re read again and again. I would love to move to Cornwall, but unfortunately can't see it happening, so have to content myself with regular holidays down there.
If you are able to come down to Memorial Weekend next March it would be nice to meet up with you.
Look forward to hearing lots more from you. Do join in with anything that takes your interest, we are always eager to welcome new friends on board.

Hello Edwina!
Welcome!
You lucky person...haven't been to Lamorna and Minack for about 5 years now and so miss it! One day.....
An artist and jeweller too...mm1 I can think of Xmas gifts.....................for me ! who else! Would love to see some of your work, why not post some on the Personal gallery in the album section.
We know exactly what you mean about the books...and read them again and again...for that reason..did you ever meet Derek?
What was your ginger moggie's name? I had a very special one called Yogi and recently lost one of our Cats Protection cats called Muffy. Have now got two ginger boys left...plus the other 14...a mix of CP and our own I hasten to add...
Look forward to chatting with you

Hi Edwina
Welcome from both of us to the FOMS Forum. Interesting that you're an artist and that you stayed at Rosemerryn - that's just down the road from us - it's where Boleigh fogou is isn't it?
Mim and I run a pottery and art studio just up the hill past Boleigh Farm, so if you're coming back this way, let us know and you could pop up to see us if you want.
Looking forward to hearing from you on the Forum
Regards
John & Mim

I went to Oliver land 2 years ago, after a very exhausting walk along the clifftop, i almost gave up!
I could smell ladies perfume up there, must have been Jeanie!
I never met Derek, but did brave it and walked down his drive but bottled it at the last minute, i would have loved to have given him a huge cuddle.
My gorgeous little moggie was called Poorlie, i bottled fed her after her mother abandoned her, she was the weakest of the litter. I had to give her a fighting chance. It payed off as she spent nearly 19 years of her life with me. I adored her, and she adored me. I miss her terribly. She has her very own grave in the garden. I wrapped her in her favorite blanket, and filled her box with cat crunchies and cat nip in case she was hungry on her way to the rainbow bridge, a photo of her and her collar. I know, i am a bit soft and sentimental!
Regarding my art work, i will put some photos of some of my paintings on my gallery page (along with a pic of poorlie), yes they are all for sale! My jewellery can be found on e bay at mistymoon silver emporium.
When i stayed at Rosemerryn wood in Lamorna, i did go into the boliegh fogu, and ran out rather quickly...i have never in my life seen spiders quite like it, their egg sacks were like hanging lightbulbs. They are a very rare breed of spider apparently, as long as they stay down there i am happy.
The cottage is a beautiful place to stay, tranquil and relaxing.
I am already planning next years 3 trips to Cornwall, and i will pop into the pottery for a cuppa this time and say hello.

Thank you Edwina for sharing the photos of Poorlie, she is beautful , just beautiful.
I never think of us as being soft or sentimental...only caring and loving of our fur friends and companionship and love they shared with us.
As for going down the lane and bottling! I think we have all felt like that as we approached the cottage. After all why should he be interested in meeting us.....but he did and it was a thrilling moment when you turned the corner of the cottage wall. I am sorry you didnt but undersatnd how you felt...I was nearly sick with fear! apprehension! dont know how to describe it...but you know him through the books. Did you sit on Ambrose Rock...its a lovely place to contemplate and just be.
I am now off to ebay to find you...

Your cat photos are really beautiful, Edwina - not just pictures, they really capture the cat's mood. They would make lovely calendar photos.

I agree with Janet, Edwina. Your paintings are so beautiful. I especially like Rainbow Village, St. Ives Bay and Sheep.
So you are not only a good photographer but also a very talented painter.
