Hello all.
Im Jane , actually Andrews wife. We live in essex and together with my husband run a small horticultural business, he does the selling and I do the growing. The first minack book I read was "A cornish summer" back in the late 1980s. It was a well thumbed paperback with an HM prison stamp in the front. As I read it I was entranced ,it hooked into something in me, and I felt what must the people in prison have felt like reading it.It made the sense of freedom feel very poignant. We have a daughter Lauren who is 22 and expecting a baby on July the 9th . I have got all the books and quite a few audio tapes that I listen to whilst working usually in the potting shed. Not long ago I had a batch of plants hit by greenfly and felt fed up but then in the tape Iwas listening to Derek was discribing some growing disaster and I felt a whole lot better. I have Three gorgeous cats Beccles, kizzy and Mischief, ducks, geese ,one sheep, one highland pony and a toy poodle called pepsi.

Hi Jane - welcome here and so nice to hear from you. My sister had a Highland pony some years ago she had him brought down from Scotland and showed him in registered M&M classes.
We all seem to find our way to Minack through slightly different routes but the journey always ends in the same place. This is a smashing forum to keep you in contact with all things Minack and Cornish. I am not far from you in wet old Hertfordshire where I have bred and shown Shih Tzu, Connemara Ponies and Shetland Sheep. But only have the dogs now. Keep posting and we will be delighted.

Hi Jane and welcome!

So hence the Becclespuss name...now we know!

Fascinating that you are in horticulture...I can think of several people who will be wanting advice about their plants....including me!

Wonderful that you are in the same business, so to speak, as Derek and Jeannie, a real link with the books.

Its always interesting to find out how others came by the books and which one they read first.

Do tell us more about you and Andrew...has he read the books? Have you visited Minack? Oliver Land?

Look forward to your posts....and welcome again to the forum!

Linda

Too true Linda re advice......I have a problem with a patch of garden that has mysteriously started killing off trees that have been planted in it for some years. Having removed them it is now killing off a Beech Hedge we are trying to grown in place of the trees........

hello Jane and welcome to the forum. You may come to regret admitting that you and Andrew are in horticulture - you will probably be bombarded with questions from us on all and sundry!

Which is your favourite Chronicle? Mine is the Cherry Tree, purely because it was by that tree that I met and chatted with Derek back in the mid 80's. But I simply love all the books and often "escape" to Minack when things are getting on top of me and I feel the need to relax and unwind. I remarked to Derek that his books were better than any sleeping pill - how he laughed, until I assured him that I meant that as a compliment rather than an insult!!

Look forward to hearing lots more from you on here.

Kath

Hello Jane just thought I'd add my welcome to all the others. It will be great chatting to you on the Forum about the Chronicles and all things Cornish.

You must be getting very excited about the arrival of Lauren's baby - not long to wait now!!!

Look forward to hearing from you soon.
