Hello!
My name is Heather and I have just joined! Wish I had found you all sooner though as last September I finally found Minack! We stayed in a holiday home/farmhouse called Rosemondess in the winding lane! Couldn't believe we were so close at last!
We didn't want to intrude down the winding lane though and instead put on our walking boots and crossed the fields using the public footpaths and into Lamorna the back way and soon found the inland path (the donkey walk).
I have cfs/me and was really worried that I would run out of steam before we got there, we stopped frequently along the way for me to catch my breath and I swear that I could feel myself being encouraged along the path. I kept saying to my husband that it was not far now and just around the corner, suddenly there was the sign for Oliver Land! We were there!
I spent some time in quiet contemplation sitting on the ambrose rock and walked to the honeysuckle garden gate to pay my respects. It was a wonderful place to be, time literally did stand still! We noticed little frogs and butterflies we would not have seen otherwise.
I didn't discover the books until 1997 and tried to get to Minack in 1998 from Logans Rock but had to give up part way as our daughter was tired. On reading the books I discovered that Jeannie had died and felt the loss as keenly as if it had only just happened. Then I found out that Derek had also passed away, a double blow and I had not even met them!
The Chronicles have meant so much to me over the years when I have been troubled I have picked up one of the books and imagined myself at Minack.
I am looking forward to talking to you some more about Minack and hope to post some photos of our visit to Oliver Land.
