I've just joined. Live in Preston in North West England, far from Cornwall. Arnside is my escape world at the moment.
I bought The World of Minack at the library and really enjoyed sharing the life at Minack for a couple of days. Did a websearch to see if Derek was still alive and found you instead. Joined to look at the pictures really and pleasantly surprised to find there is such an active forum too.
I don't know Cornwall yet but hope to see it before too long. I am retired now and my husband plans to retire this year so we will be able to do more travelling. I do have an old school friend living in Devon so that is another temptation to make the long journey.
I love quiet places in the country, walks, wild flowers, sea views, sea gulls. No personal acquaintance with donkeys yet except that one ate a polo through my trouser pocket years ago. I'm adding a picture of salsify flowers from last summer. You have to leave them in the ground two years to get the flowers. Hope the uploading bit works. Nice to meet everyone via their intros. Thanks.

Welcome Jendy !

The photo is incredible!

I am sure there will be quite a few welcomes very shortly! :)

If you are planning to travel to Cornwall we can all tell you now that with your love of nature you won't want to return from there! It has a magical hold on us all and never fails to spark our enthusiasm whether its talking about Cornwall, or Derek and Jeannie's lives or 'just' visiting.
The place you must visit , of course, is Minack and Oliver Land and to sit upon Ambrose Rock; just watching and listening to the sea, listening for birds, bees, and as Derek would say just ruminating! is our idea of heaven!

Are the flowers ones that would suit a coastal location with sometimes violent and horridly burning winds? They look beautiful, what size are they?

Welcome again and I look forward to seeing your posts...please dont be uncomfortable asking about the World of Minack, everyone here just loves talking about it, so you will get to know it before reading the remaining books!

Kindest regards
Linda

ps any questions/problems with the site please don't hesitate to shout! 8)

Hi Jendy
nice to meet you in fact any Minack fan is nice to meet. I am sure Cornwall is my spiritual home - I first visited when I was 28 and felt as though I was always meant to be there. I did have a number of years when I couldn't visit due to my equine family who couldn't be left in anyone else's care, well I didn't feel that they could, during that time I really pined for Cornwall and once returned all the feelings of belong came rushing back. You will never regret making the journey, but beware, you will want to return again and again. It gets deep in your soul.

Hi Jendy
Just to say welcome to our forum - it's good to see that as a newcomer to the story of Minack you went to the trouble of searching the net and found us. As you can see, since Linda set up our website last year and then the Forum last autumn that we've built up quite a wide community of people from just about everywhere that share one thing at least in common, a love for Derek & Jeannie's story.
Hope to hear more from you

Regards

John

Hello Jendy

Welcome to the world of Minack devotees. It makes a change to have someone else from the North of England on the forum; I live in North Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District, and yes I agree it is, unfortunately a long way from Cornwall, but it doesn't stop me going there as often as possible. I am off to the AGM and Memorial Day next month and can't wait.

Hope you enjoy the forum as much as we all do, it's great fun chatting to like-minded people about Derek and Jeannie and all things Minack.

Best wishes

Kath
