Although I have already posted several topics in this forum I somehow never got 'round to introducing myself properly, so at last here I am.

I'm German and live at Essen in Germany (but would like to be British). I fell in love with Britain when I saw a picture of a British scene in a magazine at the age of just 12 or 13, and this love has stayed with me ever since. For more than 25 years I travelled to Britain at least once or twice each year, first with my parents, my sister and a friend, later on with my husband. Our first visit took place back in 1974, and since then we have been all over Britain.
Our first visit to Cornwall was in 1986 when I discovered the Minack Chronicles in a Falmouth bookshop. I was magically drawn to those lovely front covers of the paperback versions of the Chronicles - a brief look at the text on the back of one of the books to see what they were about, and several of the Chronicles were bought at once. Since then we have been to Cornwall many times. The highlight was of course our visit to Cornwall in 1996 when we actually met Derek (just three months prior to his death).
Unfortunately due to poor health I have not been able to travel to Britain for some time now, and for the same reason I also had to reduce my fulltime work to parttime work only. I work in a company selling industrial plants all over the world, and I am secretary, shipping department, typing pool, telephone exchange, translator, etc. in one person.
In my spare time I like to take photographs or make videos. I like to write, and of course I'm interested in everything British and particularly in Cornwall.
I love animals, although we do not have any as we live in a flat on the second floor without a garden and go out to work, a situation not desirable for an animal, although we occasionally have animals in care which we happen to find outside injured or neglected.

As I have not been able to travel to Cornwall for a while this website is a great chance to keep in touch nonetheless.

Best wishes to all fellow Minack fans.

Hi Sybille

It's lovely to hear all about you, although I am sorry to learn that your health is not too good. It's a pity that it is preventing you from visiting Cornwall nowadays, it would have been great to meet up with you in Penzance in March. We will all have to take plenty of photos to post on the site for you to share the experience with us.

Happy New Year to you

Kath

Thanks Linda. Lovely to hear you like the photos, although it must be said that not all of them were taken by me. The older ones of the times when Jeannie was still alive were obtained from the auction at Penzance or from friends who in turn had obtained them from the auction. I have a few more left which I will scan in and post by and by as I get the time.
