Hi everyone,
Just a few lines to introduce myself.
I am Derek Charlton and I first became interested in Derek & Jeannies story by buying a battered paper back at a second hand book sale.
The book was "The Cherry Tree" and it caught my eye firstly because the author had the same christian name as me and secondly the topic was Cornwall where my wife and I love visiting.
I now own most of the Chronicles in paperback and hardback inluding a signed copy.
We have walked to Minack from Lamorna twice along the coast path, a bit of a struggle but well worth it.
The Honeysuckle Meadow is a special place, so peaceful.
Bye for now
Derek

Hello Derek
that's the best way to "find" Minack 'by chance' as in most cases just picking up a book which for various magical reasons we are drawn to. Cornwall seems to be a special place for all of us here, it takes some doing to walk the coastal path at that particular point. We did it just the once then opted for the inland route, still precarious in places but on the whole easier. The Honeysuckle Meadow has it's own spirituality and feeling of one-ness with it's surroundings, as you say 'a special place'. Will you be going to the AGM?

Hello Derek and Welcome!
All of the books have a special place but is there a particular book that you would call a 'favourite'?
For some its hard ro define any as a particular favourite but for me 'Lama' is more than special, with 'Jeannie' a close second.
As Gloria says the coastal route is very hard and has become more 'hazardous' since I first walked it back in 1993. I am scared of heights and there is one section which I seem to recall ahs only gorse as barrier between you and the 'fall' below!! So I too take the inland route but love this walk as there is a special point as you cross the stream, which I understand is actually a ley line, perhaps thats why it feels like you have entered special place.
Look forward to hearing from you Derek, feel free to start a new topic, everyone will join in...I am sure...
:)

Hello Derek

Nice to meet you through the website, hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.
The Cherry Tree is one of my favourites, largely because that was where I met Derek many years ago. Every time I see the hardback cover with the photo of the cherry tree in full blossom it takes me back to the lovely chat my family and I had with him. We too made our way to Minack via the coastal path from Lamorna - not for the faint hearted!! Don't think I could tackle that again - I was much younger and fitter in those days! Haven't been via the inland route yet although intending to put that right next year at the AGM weekend.

Hi Derek
Thanks for joining our forum - I hope you enjoy the discussions with our very friendly group. I'm lucky enough to live nearby, so I'm able to walk to Minack fairly regularly, when work and weather permit! The weather here has been very wet and windy for some weeks, but today dawned bright, sunny and quite warm and spring-like. There's even a very pretty clump of narcissi in full bloom down near the entrance to the cove road. I'll be going to Oliver Land over Christmas, usually Boxing Day, so I'll let everyone know how things are and maybe post a photo or two.
Looking forward to hearing from you on the Forum
Cheers

John

Thanks everyone for such a nice, friendly welcome.
Gloria I will not be able to make the AGM as it is too far to travel but we hope to come down in June for a holiday.
Kath, I wish I had met Derek as he seemed such a genuine and honest man. I loved his views on life which are still relevant today.
Linda my favourite book is The Cherry Tree as it was the 'first' for me and got me into the Chronicles.
John I am so envious of the fact you will be visiting Minack on boxing day, hope you have a great day.
Bye for now
Derek
